Learning From Children
Read this from Dr. James Dobson's article
We sometimes learn from our children... An abusive father I once knew had punished his 3-year old daughter severely for wasting a role of gold wrapping paper. He'd become infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the christmas tree. Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you daddy". He was a bit embarrassed by his earlier over-reaction, but his anger flared again when he found that the box was empty. He yelled at her, "Don't you know that when you give someone a present there's supposed to be something inside of it?" The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh daddy, it's not empty. I blew kisses in the box. I filled it with my love. All for you daddy". The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl and he begged her for forgiveness. He kept that gold box by his bed for years. And whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there. In a very real sense, each of us as parents has been given a gold container filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children.
I know that we need patience to bring up our children.. but I never realise we needed a gigantic heart to have such uncountable patience in us till now... Sometimes the lil one is learning something (i.e. throwing different objects from the high chair to hear the different sounds banging on the floor) which to the adult sounds ridiculous... yet, with the cheeky smile, he just melted my heart away.... sooo cute, sooo adorable, reminded me how much I love and adore him..
